The Stonedance range is produced by the Piekenierskloof Wine Company. They source the grapes from Fairtrade certified vineyards predominantly in the Swartland region. Emerging as one of the leading wine producing regions in the Western Cape, the Swartland is uniquely suited to growing high-quality grapes. The combination of the cool Atlantic breeze and the warm, dry summers belie a proud winemaking tradition. In recognition of the special attributes of the Swartland terroir, the company partners with strategic growers for the supply of grapes for the Stonedance range.
Fairtrade, a global initiative, seeks to improve the lives of farm workers. Stonedance wines are Fairtrade accredited, with farm workers participating in a trust that owns a significant portion of the business. A levy is channelled back to the workers and utilized for the building of clinics, crèches as well as for educational support. The winemaking team continually strives to increase this expression of place during growing and winemaking – in order to craft characterful wines – a process they describe as ‘dancing with stones’.
