WINERY
Johan and Sue Heyns bought two pieces of land in the Botrivier Valley in 2008. Today the land is known as Anysbos. Anysbos is named after the Anysboegoe (Agathosma Cerefolium) that grows in the Overberg.
“Johan has always been a farmer at heart, but without a farm. Farming is his third career: first a lawyer, then a filmmaker and now a farmer. Sue’ is from the IT industry; her knowledge of computers and what can be done with them on a farm is a huge help.” - Eatout.
They produce wine, olive oil and cheese. During the years they have learned a lot about the craft of farming. They are assisted by a wonderful staff, of which some of them have been at the farm from the beginning. The help and advice from the winemakers of the Bot River valley has helped them immensely.
In 2012 Johan and Sue planted the first dryland bush vine Grenache in Botrivier. Other varieties followed: Chenin blanc, Grenache blanc, Rousanne, Marsanne, Shiraz and Cinsaut. The Anysbos wines are sought after and very unique because of the limited amount produced.
WINE MAKER
Marelise Niemann has her own range of Momento Wines but also produces the wine of Anysboss. She currently uses the Anysbos cellar for all the wines she makes. She is passionate about working with grape varieties that are well suited to South Africa’s climate. That means vineyards that can handle low rainfall and high temperatures; that naturally fit in with the environment and don’t need excessive energy input. Her love of the Botriver area resonates in all her wines.
