Altydgedacht Estate entered a new era in 2017 when two renowned Durbanville families began working together: traditionally the Parker family of Altydgedacht and the new family on board: Van der Merwe of VDMV Property Holdings.
The Parker family has managed the farm since 1852. George Francis Parker, then 19 years old, arrived at the Cape with his family in 1819, with one of the many groups of settlers sent by the English government to the Cape and the Australian colonies. George stayed on the Cape to become a merchant and later bought the farm while the rest of the family settled in Australia. His perseverance laid the foundation for a new era for the farm and a 150 year old property where the fifth generation is now at the helm in the persons of John & Olivier Parker, assisted by winemaker Helgard van Schalkwyk.
