WINERY
Harry Hartman is the wine company of Marcel Hartman and Sean Harrison, who are obsessed with wine and have a deep and passionate love for the Cape, its terroir and the talents and characters of her people.
All of which have inspired them to showcase and share with other friends around the world what they believe to be some of the Capes most extraordinary wines, stories, and personalities. The business started with two products, and it will continue to add to the range, always being a boutique styled operation and creating small, impeccably crafted wine batches. For the launch, the friends have chosen to make a Bordeaux styled red blend from Stellenbosch and a Shiraz from the Cederberg and Stellenbosch. The first-ever bottling of Harry Hartman wines was on Valentine’s Day 2020.
First bottles were hand waxed with a little pot of wax on the stove in an old Cape Dutch house with 7 dogs running around and hand labelled.
Only 2500 bottles of each brand have been made, to always ensure that clients get products that are truly exclusive and unique.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND HARRY HARTMAN WINE COMPANY
The idea for “Harry Hartman” grew when Sean Harrison and Marcel Hartman met and frequently visited The Winevillage. They met with winemakers in Elgin and Hemel & Aarde Valley and wanted to showcase SA wines and promote the high quality overseas.
Their “secret winemakers” are based in Elgin and Botrivier.
“Hartman” is not a person, but the nickname of Sean Harrison and surname of Marcel Hartman.
The name “Harry” is the name of their agent in Johannesburg and Marcel’s parrot.
Harry Hartman Wine company wants to see more collaboration in the wine world. They recently have made a wine together with Joseph T. Dhafana of Mosi Wines.
