Winery
Kyburg Boutique Wines is situated in the picturesque Devon Valley, 8km from Stellenbosch town. The valley is known as one of South Africa’s prime areas for producing exceptional red wines due to its hot dry summer days and the cool ocean breeze that reaches the valley at night. Kyburg produces a limited quantity of wine (25.000 bottles per year). The winery follows the Classic French tradition of wine making, low production per hectare, controlled open fermentation and the use of French oak barrels. All of these giving the wines great structure, complexity and finesse, with a good aging potential. Fred and Rosmarie Ruest, owners of Kyburg Boutique Wines, named the farm after the medieval castle ‘Kyburg’ near Winterthur in Switzerland. Both Rosmarie and Fred grew up in the vicinity of this castle and paid many visits to it as children. Daughter Tanja Ruest heads up the marketing for Kyburg and takes guests on road trips throughout South Africa. She introduces them to places where the Kyburg wine is available.
