Hofstraat Cellar

Hofstraat Cellar: The petite garagiste winery with a big heart”

Platter’s South African Wine Guide 2018
Hofstraat Cellar

Winery

Hofstraat Cellar is named for the Malmesbury street where friends Wim Smit and Jerry Finley started making wine. In the year 2000 they got 25 friends together and picked 500 kg of shiraz grapes. They de-stemmed them by hand and made their first wine in the garage. In 2002 the cellar was registered and in 2003 the first wine was certified. Since 2004 Hofstraat Cellar won the Michelangelo Wine Award as ‘Garagiste of the Year’ six times! To this day all work in the cellar is done together with family and friends.

Wine maker

Wim Smit and Jerry Finley started making wine in their garage for fun and as a result of their shared passion, but Hofstraat Cellar has established itself in recent years as one of the signature producers of the sought-after Swartland wine region.
